ABOUT RADIX MEDIA
Radix Media publishes new ideas and fresh perspectives, prioritizing the voices of typically marginalized communities to get to the root of the human experience. The name Radix comes from the Latin root of the word radical, meaning to get to the root.
We have been dedicated to the proliferation of beautiful printed matter since 2010. We began with custom made stationery and short runs of political pamphlets, and expanded into literary publishing in 2018. All of our titles are edited, typeset, designed, and produced in-house. This gives us total flexibility over how our books look and feel. It also allows us to utilize and combine printing processes—including offset lithography, letterpress, and state-of-the-art digital technology—to make something truly special.
As printers and designers, we feel that publishing is about the beautiful moment when thoughts, hopes, and dreams come together. It’s about the freedom for people to tell their own stories. With our intimate knowledge of the printing process, we can turn a blank sheet of paper and some ink into a tool, a gift to be shared and passed down. We use our skills as printers to make the books that we have always wanted to see. Our control over the production process also makes our books more economically accessible to a wider audience. See our catalog for a current list of titles, several of which are award-winning.
Worker-Owned. Union Strong. Eco-Friendly.
At Radix Media, we live our values every single day.
We’re worker-owned, because we believe that workers should have control over their workplace conditions and have a voice in the decisions that shape their lives. We are proud to operate a democratic business with no hierarchy and no bosses, which is almost unheard of in the publishing industry.
We’re union strong, because we know that without unions, we’d all be working 14-hour days and so would our children. (Note that our children appreciate unions, too.) We’re unionized with Local 1 of the Amalgamated Lithographers Union/International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
We’re eco-friendly, because we know that we only have one planet and that we should take care of it. We use 100% post-consumer recycled paper whenever possible, low-VOC inks in our presses, and dampening systems that are free of alcohol. This ensures that we are producing our books as responsibly as we can.
But wait, there’s more.
In addition to being a publisher, Radix Media is also a commercial print shop, offering offset, letterpress, and digital printing services. In a time where many large print shops have closed or acquired by even bigger enterprises, we stay small so that we can have a better working relationship with our clients. We love working with other small publishers and are happy to send you pricing estimates on business collateral such as business cards, bookmarks, table covers, and large format signage for trade shows. Talk to us about producing your next galley or catalog, too.
We love owning the means of production and putting what we create out into the world, but we also love collaborating with other people. If you’re an author or an artist looking for someone to publish your work, see our submissions page. To be interviewed or to write guest posts on our blog, reach out to our editor.
