In Publishing, What's New?

We have some exciting news to share: Futures: A Science Fiction Series has won gold in Foreword Reviews‘ 2019 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards! In a category like Adult Science Fiction, where there was some steep competition, we are humbled that our collection of chapbooks won the big prize. Congratulations to all of our authors! Ready to purchase this award-winning box set? Sounds like a good time to do some shopping!

But that’s not the only award that Futures picked up recently.

Radix Media wins two big book awards!

The Futures box set was named a winner of the AIGA 50 Books | 50 Covers of 2019 competition. We’re incredibly proud of the design work we did for Futures—for the individual covers and interiors, as well as the box and belly band that holds them together—and could not be happier to receive this recognition from esteemed jurors. Here’s a little bit about the award:

“The jurors—Michael Bierut, chair, Hilary Greenbaum, Lisa Lucas, and Silas Munro—evaluated each work’s integrated design approach, including concept, innovation, and visual elements such as typography, illustration, and/or information design. Entries were open to books published and used in the marketplace in 2019. The 2019 winning selections will become a part of a permanent, accessible, and historic collection of notable graphic design in the AIGA Design Archives. The books become part of the AIGA collection at the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Columbia University’s Butler Library in the city of New York.”

The interior layout was done by worker-owner Lantz Arroyo, while the covers were done by worker-owners Sarah Lopez and Nicholas Hurd. Sarah created the overall branding of the project and wrote about it for SPINE Magazine. You can see a full list of 50 Books | 50 Covers winners in AIGA’s Winners Gallery.

Thank you to AIGA and Foreword Reviews. Winning book awards is not why we do this work, but it warms our hearts to know that our books are getting this kind of recognition!
