New Processes
Radix Media and Wasp Print have been operating from 522 Bergen Street since August 1st. It is our pleasure to offer you more printing processes from a single shop. These new services include die-cutting, foil stamping, embossing and duplexing. We’ve been hard at work getting acquainted with each other’s processes and workflows. This means that snazzy, new posters and notebooks are on the horizon—as well as our latest publishing venture Aftermath: Explorations of Loss and Grief. We can’t wait to share all of our upcoming projects.
Foil Stamping
One of the new processes that we are most excited about is foil stamping! This process utilizes the same Heidelberg Windmill that we run most letterpress jobs on. Instead of using lead type or a photopolymer plastic plate we use a magnesium or copper metal plate called a die. This metal die has a raised surface that uses heat and pressure to transfer metallic colors to paper. The actual foil comes in a long roll, and each impression transfers the color from the roll to the paper where the die is raised. Foil is a great process if you want really shiny metallics, clear gloss and nice solid printing. It is not always best for tiny details but we can print quite small with this. We also don’t recommend using white foils, we find that they never meet our high standards of perfection.
